Mirchi Vada

Mirchi Vada (chili cutlet) also known as Mirchi Bhaje, Mirchi Bhajia is a spicy Indian snack consisting of chili (Mirchi) and potato stuffing, served hot with tomato sauce or occasionally with mint and tamarind chutney.

Ingredients

for stuffing

Boiled potatoes (mashed)
chopped onions
chaat masala
green chilies
cumin seed
turmeric powder
saunf
red chili powder
dried mango powder
salt
oil/butter

for vada

5-8 large green peppers/ badi hari mirch
1 cup besan
red chili powder
cumin seeds
ajwain / celery
salt

Directions

Take oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, green chilies and onions(finely chopped). fry till golden pink. Add saunf , turmeric powder, red chili powder and mashed potatoes. Mix well. Later add salt and dried mango powder.

Wash and wipe the peppers, slit lenghtwise and de-seed it. Fill the potato stuffing. Mix the besan with salt and enough amount of water and all the spices (listed below vada) .

Heat the oil and check by drooping a drop of besan. (if it comes up at once, the oil is ready). Dip the pepper into the besan anddrop it into the hot oil. Fry till a golden and crisp.

Serve hot with tomato sauce !!!
